The Taveuni Island has always been known for its unique and colorful sea life, tropical fish, and amazing varieties of soft and hard coral. The Rainbow Reef, Great White Wall, Purple Wall, and Zoo dive sites are all within easy reach of the Taveuni resort.

The Great White Wall reef offers a tunnel with two exits, one at 33 feet and another at 88 feet. When you swim through it, you'll notice a white glow that is given off by the soft corals that seem to surround you.

You'll also find two dive centers that are minutes from Taveuni Palms, which offer you dive equipment and certified diving instructors. From beginners to expert divers, you can have a lot of fun scuba diving on your beach vacation.

Rooms and suites The two seperate beachfront villas at Taveuni Palms in Fiji come with their own staff to help make your vacation a bit more relaxing. The staff will make your dreams come true, as they offer full room support.

Each seperate villa offers a pool, two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, and a very unique indoor/outdoor bathroom. The outdoor deck is equipped with chairs so that you can spend time outside as well, taking in the surrounding views of the ocean. The spectacular sunsets will turn into tropical nights - with stunning starlit skies.

Your personal maid at the villa will provide you with daily cleaning service, laundry service, fresh flowers, and evening turn down. The maids here are very professional, making your stay at the Taveuni Palms in Fiji one you'll remember for years to come.

The resort will also provide you with your own private chef, kitchen, and bar staff who will provide your daily meals, which are included in the cost of your stay. This way, you don't have to eat out - your food will be prepared for you at the resort.

Traveling and Getting to Taveuni. To get to Taveuni Palms, fly to Nadi International airport in Fiji. From there, catch a connecting flight to Taveuni Island where the Taveuni Palms staff will meet you at the airport, five minutes from the hotel.

Of course, wherever you travel, it is highly recommended that you take out travel insurance before embarking on any vacation. Unfortunately, without insurance, you have little recourse if you have to suddenly cancel your trip due to illness or other unforeseeable circumstances. Realize that resorts like this will expect to be paid no matter what. However, with travel insurance, you can recoup some or all of your costs if travel and vacation plans change. Travel insurance is very affordably priced, so please check out your options.

Traveling Through Tanzania

by Kalisti Juma
A Tanzania Safari is a place of wonder and discovery. Tanzania was the entry point for many early explorers and the same is true today; there is much on offer and there are many places to discover. To embark on a safari here in Tanzania is to discover the wonder of this friendly African paradise. Beware the tourists who tend to rush by from one high point to the next; like sheep who never lift their head out of the grass and thereby miss the splendor around them. After a day or two of such a hectic schedule each day becomes the same as the last. This saddens me as Tanzania is the place in which to fall in love with Africa. Tanzania is a place that lives inside you; and calls you back again and again.

There are many unusual National parks such as the Udzungwa Mountains which is a national park with no roads. This park has wildlife but was created primarily for the protection of the wonderful pant life that blanket the tropical rainforests. Because there are no roads here it is a must here to get out your vehicle and walk in the mountain rain forests. Like all places it takes time to discover and a half day stop here on the peripheries of a great adventure is simply not enough.

It is possible to find many places to walk and discover the delights of this East African paradise without ever stepping inside a National Park. There are the East and West Usamabara Mountains or the Pare Mountains with a prolific birdlife, these very African mountains are a delight to discover and explore. If you travel by road from the Southern Safari circuit to the Northern Safari circuit take a day or two to break the journey half way in one of these mountain rangers.

There are villages around Kilimanjaro, high above Moshi Town where it is possible to explore; here the local people grow coffee and bananas. Some villages such as my favorite, Uru, are close to the tourist circuit but not part of it. It is easily accessible yet not commercialized.

Cultural visits can expand your whole experience; add time and experience to your itinerary in Tanzania without costing a fortune. It is important to do this with gentleness and respect; remembering that you are the visitor here. All too often this simple truth is forgotten; remember to respect local customs and dress codes.

When we talk about cultural tour I am not talking of the organized cultural tours but genuine encounters with Tanzanian people. This is best done though a charity that is willing and eager to organize cultural visits. If you have the luxury of time a day or two spent working voluntary will enable you to experience Africa in a way most people will never know. To volunteer even for a short time will be the experience you will share with friends for the rest of your life.

To move around Tanzania on local transport is something you should do with care. If traveling by road on local transport select your bus company with caution. A general guide would be the cheaper the ticket the less safe the bus. There are good bus companies that travel around Tanzania and I would advise you pay the extra money for both comfort and safety - Scandinavia or Dar Express being two of the best operating between Arusha and Dar es Salaam. Trains are not usually an option for tourists, with a few exceptions they are normally unreliable and slow. The few destinations that are usable have first class tickets sold out well in advance; especially at holiday time; to book in advance is advisable. However, since early 2007 most train services are so unreliable to book in advance is quite impossible.

You may get hassled as you walk around the cities by taxi drivers or young people selling curios. Remember, Tanzania is a poor country and these young people are attempting to earn a living to feed a family; and competition is fierce. To know a few words in Swahili, such as si-ombi [I don't need] will come in handy. Remember not to be rude, be firm but friendly. To get rid of a persistent young man selling curios should be done with respect and without showing any anger.

The towns and villages are a cultural dream with the warm friendly people welcoming visitors. Tanzania is a country where hospitality is a tradition; the traveler is welcomed and honored. In the big towns such as Dar es Salaam it would be advisable to take the normal precautions any tourist must take. Tanzania is a safe country and its people are peace loving.

The Life Of An Expat Is Not Always Sweetness And Light

by Donald Saunders
Sitting in your dining room and gazing out across your windswept and rain soaked garden it is all too easy to imagine yourself living a new life in a new country, but just how does the picture in your mind's eye compare to the reality after you have moved abroad? Well, this question is not perhaps as simple to answer as you might imagine.

Probably the biggest problem is that there are such a large number of variables to think about and so many factors which are quite simply unknown at the outset. It is very easy, for example, to think that the fact that you do not speak the language is unimportant as, in the short term at least, you may well be able to get by in your mother tongue and will always be able to pick up enough of the language in the longer term. But just how easy is it for you to learn a language and just how simple easy is it to learn the particular language of your chosen country?

You may also be looking forward to all that exotic food, but just how is a possibly substantial change in your diet going to affect your health? You may very well have tasted some wonderful restaurant food on holiday trips but is this really the type of food you will be enjoying every day when you are cooking for yourself?

All of these problems are of course minor when you compare them to adjusting mentally to living in what is not only a different country, but often a very different culture. The things which you have found both fascinating and curious when on holiday could well present you with considerable difficulty when they become part and parcel of your daily life.

Most countries with an expat community of any size develop a strong support network, which often includes an expat club which holds regular meetings, organizes outings and events, distributes its own newspaper and much more. Initially this may seem very comforting but it is worth thinking about why the expatriates in the country have found it necessary to create such an extensive support network. Indeed, when you see the extent to which the lives of many expatriates revolve around the activities of the expat community you may find yourself asking why they moved overseas at all.

In fact a fair number of expats find that, after the novelty has worn off, they regret their decision to move overseas but have frequently burnt their bridges and now find themselves with no alternative except to stay where they are and make the most of their situation.

Of course this is not true of all expats and, as an expatriate myself, I can tell you that there are also many of us who are extremely happy with our decision to re-locate and would certainly not wish to turn back the clock. For many hundreds of people every year the decision to move abroad is the best decision they have ever made and one which they most certainly do not regret. By how can you tell which group of expats you are likely to join before you take your decision?

Unfortunately, you can never of course be certain, although there are a number of things which you can do to increase your chances of your decision being one that you are glad you made.

One of the most important things that you can do is to test the water and that means effectively living in your chosen country for a fair length of time before you cut your ties with home. But the critical word here is 'living'.

It is no good just visiting your chosen country once or twice a year on holiday, staying in hotels and dining out in restaurants. You need to spend a minimum of a year in the country and cast off any idea of being on holiday. You need to make a conscious effort to live as you would wish to live in the longer term, keeping away from tourist areas and activities and integrating yourself into the local community. Live just like a local, doing your own cooking and making the time to learn something of the local history, lifestyle and culture, while at the same time beginning to learn the language.

If you steer clear of the expatriate community and integrate yourself into the local community from the very beginning you will rapidly find out whether or not you would be making a wise decision to live overseas permanently.

The 10 best Czech breweries - And travelling outside Prague Submission Acknowledgement

by Martin Steinbach
Prague's status as a destination for beer lovers is undisputed: the Czech Republic is home to the original Pilsner, the original Budweiser and boasts the world's highest beer consumption, 160 litres per person each year. In Prague, great pubs are found on every corner, and it is not uncommon to see people drinking one or more of the country's outstanding lagers with breakfast. Ounce for ounce, beer is cheaper than water here, and often appears to be consumed more widely.

However, if you really want to sample Czech brewing, you need to leave the capital. This is far easier and less expensive than in many neighbouring countries, with excellent public transportation to nearly every Czech brewpub and regional brewery within a few hours. Trips are very easy to plan using the www.idos.cz website, which details all connections around the country. Not only will you beat the crowds, but prices are often lower -- and the beers are far more varied.

1. First off: the excellent Pivovarsky dvur at Chyne, so close it is actually served by Prague's bus line: from Prague's Zlicin metro station, take the 347 bus five stops to the "Chyne Pivovarsky Dvur" station, about a ten-minute ride. Here you'll find one of the country's best light lagers, a semi-sweet golden brew with just 3% alcohol and a sweet, honey-like finish. With buses leaving hourly, this is perfect for a lunchtime tasting of the brewpub's high-quality lagers with a traditional meal of hearty beef goulash and fluffy Czech dumplings.

2. Not too much further away is the excellent Berounsky Medved brewery, located right in the rail-yard of the commuter town of Beroun. Naturally, train connections are frequent, but hikers should consider the trail along the Berounka river starting from the town of Cernosice, just five kilometers away from Prague, passing by Karlstejn Castle, built in the fourteenth century by Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV. At a slow pace, the beautiful 25-kilometer hike takes about 8 hours, making the first Berounsky Medved golden lager -- slightly yeasty and with a pronounced vanilla finish -- preternaturally delicious.

3. Of course, not all travel requires such an effort. When James Bond boarded his bullet train to Montenegro in the last Casino Royale, the cinematic stand-in was the high-speed Czech Pendolino. Every day, six such 007-worthy trains leave the Czech capital for the university town of Olomouc, where a stylish new brewpub, Moritz, has achieved renown as much for its wonderful beers as for being completely non-smoking, a first in the country. The dark lager, Cerna Tereza, has a toasty malt flavour and a rich, creamy finish, inviting tasters to postpone departure until the next train, if not indefinitely.

4. Far more rustic is Vendelin (Lukasovska 43, Liberec-Stary Harcov, Tel. 485 163 096) in the northern mountainous of Bohemia, near the German and Polish borders. Forget Moritz's non-smoking airs and Art-Nouveau décor: Vendelin has just a few picnic tables in the front yard, and the brewing kettles are still coal-fired. The resultant elixir has an apricot nose, extremely low carbonation and a sugary, fruity finish. True to form, the brewery still doesn't have a website: just follow the rapturous sighs of highly contented beer fans.

5. While most Czech brewers stick with the traditional 5% alcohol, a few have recently introduced higher-octane brews. But just one, Pernstejn Pardubice, has made a strong beer for over a century: the astounding Pardubicky Porter, a black brew of 8% alcohol by volume. Rich and malty with cola, spice and coffee notes, it is best sampled at the bustling brewery restaurant, just a short walk from the city's main train station. Through October, Pardubice has a second big draw: the notoriously difficult Velka Pardubicka steeplechase, which has challenged horses and jockeys since 1874.

6. Dating from just two years earlier is the sprawling brewery at Nova Paka, built in 1872 above a duck pond, and with a lovely period restaurant on-site. Though the brewer remains one of the country's most traditional, Nova Paka recently introduced Hemp Valley Beer, an innovative lager doctored with hemp extract, giving it a pungent, marijuana-like aroma. Buses and trains run several times an hour between Prague and Nova Paka; the journey takes about two hours.

7. Much less a brewery than it is a community centre, Pivovar Medlesice serves two fine lagers -- and occasionally hosts holiday functions and costume parties for children (and their parents). Medlesice lies on the main rail route running south from Pardubice, allowing for a multiple-brewery day-trip with careful planning.

8. However, sometimes you simply have to stay for another round, return tickets be damned. Thus the rise of another great Czech innovation: the brewery hotel, with some 16 breweries around the country offering lodging as well as great beer. Not too far from the far-more-famous town of Budweis, home to the original Budweiser, Pivovarsky dvur Lipan has guest rooms, guided canoe tours of the Vltava river, berry-picking in the lush South Bohemian forests, as well as absolutely stunning golden and black lagers. The rustic pensione charges just £7.40 per person for lodging.

9. Of course, it wouldn't be the Czech Republic without mentioning the town of Plzen, aka Pilsen, where the pilsner style was first produced at Pilsner Urquell in 1842. That brewery now features a massive visitors' centre, but fewer tourists ever find the town's excellent brewpub, U rytire Lochoty (At the Knight Lochota, Karlovarksa 103, Tel. +420 377 540 946), which serves an outstanding amber lager, an older style almost made extinct by the spread of pilsner.

10. Two and a half hours away from Brno (and under four hours from Prague) is the Dalesice brewery, perhaps most famous for its role in the beloved film Cutting it Short, directed by Oscar-winner Jiri Menzel. Though the original brewery closed in 1977, a cozy new microbrewery has since opened up, serving one of the best -- yet almost unknown -- Czech brewing styles, yeast beer, with far more complex flavours than standard lagers. Dalesice's version is as rich and creamy as home-made ice cream, but with a lovely back-bite from lots of Czech hops. Like many of the best Czech brews, you'll probably never taste anything like this in Prague. But once you do, you'll wish you never had to go back.

Fiji...where soft coral sights unfold

by Kathy Fortune
Where soft coral sites come to life...

In still waters, colonies of coral reef that would normaly be brilliant, turn inward and become nothing more than knobby rockscapes. But when the tides are right and the fast moving currents force water to flood over these tiny creatures, amazing things can happen right before your eyes.

In Fiji Somosomo Straits and Vatu-i-Ra Passage this perfect combination occurs naturally and regularly. To witness this miraculous event you may have to hold on to your hat (or mask) and be ready to kick, sometimes hard, to stay in one place. But the reward...to get to watch the spectacular event unfold as the nutrient rich water flows over and the soft coral beauties come to life.

Finding soft corals in the 300 plus islands of Fiji is not a difficult task in itself, but if you want to see the phenomenon of these creatures bloom with there starbursts of color, you'll need to look a little harder.

Forests of soft coral unfold where the water is forced to accelerate through narrow passages when there are changes in the tides. You'll want to have a map handy, find those narrow passages and be there at the right time. Oh what a sight you'll see.

A little investigation and following of the tidal schedule will reap big rewards to the diver willing to invest the time. Have your underwater camera and strobe ready because you'll want to capture this beauty forever. Who knows, maybe with these amazing images you'll be able to invoke the scuba spirit into that person you've been trying to convince to take the dive with you. You may just end up with a new scuba diving buddy for your next adventure.

The 10 Best Hotels in the World

For any connoisseur of luxury, the five star hotel is an essential component of their holiday. No matter where you go in the world, it is possible to stay in hotels that redefine opulence and create the ultimate environment to relax and be pampered. In this article, I will take a look at what are often described as the ultimate collection of hotels in the world by travellers.

As you will see, it is not necessarily the most expensive, or the most opulent hotel in a particular destination that is considered the best, it is more than this; the hotel must be a reason for travelling to a place as well!

10: Kanuhura, Maldives
If you’ve ever wanted to stay on your own desert island to get away from it all, the chances are that you’ve thought about visiting the Maldives. Made up of coral atolls spread out across the Indian Ocean, the Maldives is a unique country, and the Kanuhura, is a stunning hotel that offers visitors the chance to enjoy their own luxurious villa that stands on stilts in the ocean itself to create the illusion that you are on your own!

9: The Bellagio, Las Vegas, USA
The Bellagio is the jewel in the crown of Las Vegas as the USA’s premier holiday destination. The rooms are fantastic, the spa is out of this world, and the casino is the place to be seen, but it is the catalogue of stars that perform in the hotel’s vast auditoria that elevate the Bellagio above its rivals on the Las Vegas Strip.

8: Pitti Palace, Florence, ItalyT
here are few destinations in the world like Florence; this stunning city is the home of fine art, and the birthplace of the renaissance. The Pitti Palace is one of the most impressive hotels in Europe, and offers visitors the chance to enjoy the opulence of a renaissance palace that was once home to the Medici family, and boasts a number of masterpieces by artists such as Michelangelo on its walls!

7: Lion Sands Resort, Kruger National Park, South Africa
For anyone wanting to get close to nature at its most impressive, the Kruger National Park in South Africa is a great place to visit, and is home to all of the so-called big-five animals. Lion Sands is one of a number of private lodges in the park, and is undoubtedly the best. Visitors get to enjoy two safaris a day, and the resort is so exclusive that less than 20 people can stay there at any one time!

6: Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong
While it might not be the most luxurious hotel in Hong Kong any more, the Mandarin Oriental is still the most stunning place to stay in the city. Offering incredible views of the famous harbour, along with great cuisine and stunning rooms, but it is the attention to detail and attentive personalised service offered by the staff that marks the Mandarin Oriental out as truly special.

5: Chiva Som, Hua Hin, Thailand
Chiva Som is probably the top spa destination in the world right now, a resort entirely dedicated to the concept of wellness. Upon arrival, all guests are assessed, and your menus, exercise programmes and beauty treatments are planned for the duration of your stay making for a truly exceptional experience.

4: Park Hyatt, Sydney, AustraliaO
n the surface, the Park Hyatt, Sydney is nothing special. It is undeniably luxurious, offers high quality service, and boasts a number of exquisite restaurants, but so do any number of other hotels around the world. What marks out this particular 5-star above all others in the city is its location over looking the beautiful harbour, and offering the best views of the Opera House and iconic harbour bridge that you will ever see.

3: The Waldorf Astoria, New York, USAT
he Waldorf Astoria is the grand old lady of New York Hospitality. The Waldorf Astoria is the flagship property of the exclusive Hilton Group. It may no longer be the largest, most luxurious, or most exclusive hotel in the city, but it remains the most famous, most enchanting, and down right best with its perfect mix of luxury service, and glamour

2: The Ritz, London, UK
The original 5 Star hotel, the Ritz is a byword for tradition and luxury in one of the most exciting cities in the world. It offers truly majestic levels of service and accommodation, and has a well-earned reputation as one of the finest places to eat out in the UK, with several world-class restaurants for guests to choose from.

1: Al Maha, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The iconic Burj al Arab on Jumeirah Beach may be the last word in overblown opulence in Dubai, but the Al Maha desert resort is without a doubt the best hotel you can stay in. It offers levels of exclusivity that are unrivalled, exceptional accommodation, and above all, unmatched privacy and personalised service that will ensure that no matter how high your standards, this hotel will always exceed them.

Vacation Incentives show that you care

by Delaney Parker
Who does not like to go on a nice, long and refreshing vacation? Well, in today's fast paced world, where everybody is busy participating in the rat race, at the end they all want to take a long and a nice refreshing vacation that helps them in rejuvenation. After spending hours in office in trying to achieve goals and meet unrealistic deadlines, we all crave to be with our families, far away from all the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. Well, however, at times our responsibilities towards our work front restrict us to do that at times. Therefore, my suggestion to all the bosses would be why don't you introduce vacation incentives for your employees! I mean just think about it. You can give your employees a chance to go somewhere for a vacation and they will love it.

Vacation incentives are good means of giving incentives to your employees. This will not only help them to relax but at the same time, will help them to give a boost to their spirits and they will feel more energetic about their work. In fact, vacation incentives can also help to raise the income of your firm by almost thirty percent. N numbers of companies who have used the strategy of vacation incentives have got amazing responses and they feel that more companies should adopt vacation incentives as their means of giving incentives to their employees. Vacation incentives are used in online promotions, newspaper and magazine adverts, and direct mailing promotions and even in the form of inserts. Vacation incentives can be a good way of letting your employees to know that you care for them and that they are an integral part of your firm or organization.

Now let us understand what exactly these vacation incentives are. Well, they are incentives or in other words, inducements in the form of vacation. As in as the employer you can give your employees vacation incentives instead of monetary incentives. These can also be in the form of certificates and vouchers wherein your employees will be given the scope to go in for a holiday with their family members without them having to pay for their vacation. All they will need to pay is the tax and the registration charge. To opt for vacation incentives, you will need to have tie ups with hotels and with airlines, so that you also get the chance of increasing your profits and incomes from vacation incentives. The only reason why hotels and vacation companies are able to make these offers is only because they frequently adopt a policy of giving rooms and flights free to promotional companies in order to fill rooms and seats at times when occupancy is not full.

The competition all around has give way to newer things and the nest part is that these new things are being well accepted and appreciated all around. Vacation incentives are a fairly new concept and the real good thing is that it is being well accepted and well appreciated. In addition, vacation incentives help to satisfy both the employee as well as the employer. Therefore, what else do you want to consider! Simply opt for vacation incentives to keep your employees happy and content and make them feel pampered.

I Love Touring Italy - Launching a Series

by Levi Reiss
Italy is the world's top vacation destination. Who says so? The annual survay of the U.S. Tour Operators Association. This is because Italy has something for everyone. Its multiple attractions include secular and religious sites spanning centuries if not millennia, dynamic cities and isolated villages, beaches, ski resorts, and world-class fashion. Of course let's not forget their outstanding cuisine, and their unique wines, what wines. Italy has an unmatched selection of local grape varieties. And if you prefer international grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, you won't be disappointed.

Are you aware that Italy is subdivided into twenty regions? Each and every one is different, and well worth touring. Some such as Piedmont are world famous. Others such as Bascilicata are almost never visited by foreigners, or even by Italians themselves.

Italy can be divided into three major sections: Northern Italy, sharing a border with four European countries (France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia), Central Italy, and the South, traditionally the poorest part of Italy.

Northern Italy is composed of eight regions: The Aosta Valley, Piedmont (whose capital is Turin), Lombardy (whose capital is Milan), Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto (whose capital is Venice), Emilia-Romagna, and Liguria (whose capital is Genoa). Central Italy is composed of six regions: Tuscany (whose capital is Florence), Umbria, The Marches, Abruzzi, Molise, and Latium (whose capital is Rome). Southern Italy is composed of six regions: Apulia, Campania (whose capital is Naples), Basilicata, Calabria, and the islands of Sicily (whose capital is Palermo) and Sardinia.

Each article will present a region and several of its tourist attractions. We love Italian wine and food (as expressed in our series I Love Italian Wine and Food), so we'll present regional wines and foods of special interest.

Because we'll be discussing regional wines, let's briefly look at the Italian wine classifications. These classifications will also come in handy if you're an armchair tourist and want to enjoy Italian wine at home or in your favorite restaurant. Wine and Food Classification. In 1963 Italy legally defined four wine classifications that presumably help consumers choose their wine. While most wine producing countries have instituted official wine classifications, arguably the Italian system is the most controversial, possibly the most abused, and probably the most ignored by the wine producers themselves. Should you learn a bit about them anyway? We think so.

VdT means Vino da Tavola, which is translated as table wine. Table wines may be made from any grape, or mixture of grapes, anywhere within Italy. Usually they are quite ordinary, and in Italy are often served directly from the barrel. Many VdT wines are excellent and most of them are priced accordingly.

IGT stands for Indicazione Geografica Tipica, which may be translated as Typical Geographic Indication, in other words a wine that typifies its specific location. This classification specifies the wine's geography but is silent about its composition and production method. As for the previous category, sometimes IGT wines are excellent.

DOC stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata, which may be translated as Denomination of Controlled Origin. Each and every region has at least one DOC wine, but some have dozens. A given DOC defines the permissible grape or grape varieties as well as numerous details about the grape growing and wine making process. Approximately twenty percent of Italian wine is classified DOC or better. Perhaps you can guess from this statistic that a DOC on the label is no guarantee of quality.

DOCG stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Guarantita, which may be translated as Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin. Please realize that this letter G on the label is no guarantee of quality. But you can expect to pay more for a DOCG wine than for its less prestigious DOC cousin.

Unlike most countries, Italy has gone to the trouble to set up an extensive classification system for food, all kinds of food including olive oil, cheese, and even fruit. Look for the term Denominazione d'Origine Protetta, abbreviated as DOP, which may be translated as Denomination of Protected Origin. You'll find from experience whether it's worth paying a bit more to buy a certified orange.

Have you had enough of the generalities? It is time to move on to the specific Italian regions.

Tips For Late Summer Travel

by Rick Chapo
We are into the latter part of summer, but that doesn't mean many of us are not still traveling on vacations. Here are a few last minute tips to help you out.

First and foremost, figure out if you will need a passport for your trip. Recent regulation changes have been implemented that require you to have a passport to reenter the US from practically any country. This includes Mexico and Canada. The new regulation has led to a massive backlog, so make sure you have a current passport. If you need a new one, find out how long it will take and any exceptions that might apply to your destination.

A second issue to take into account is the end of summer weather. Mentally, we all usually equate the end of summer with cooling temperatures. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is not true. August is one of the hottest months and September will bake as well. Only in the latter half of September can you expect things to cool down. Plan and dress appropriately for the heat.

Electricity is the same everywhere except when it is not. If you live in the US, you should know the rest of the world for the most part run their electronics on a different voltage. If you are heading outside of the country, make sure you have a power converter. There is no better way to ruin a trip than to plug in the old laptop, here a crackling noise, smell a bad odor and know something very, very bad has happened!

If your wallet is light, try to look for charter air flights. These airlines offer intermittent flights through the summer. As summer comes to a close, the ticket prices can get super low. Once you buy a ticket, try to upgrade when checking in. I once paid $75 for an upgrade to first class on a flight from Paris to Los Angeles. Best $75 I ever spent!

Finally, avoid the doom and gloom. For some reason, we have become a species of complainers. Yes, the summer is coming to an end, but that doesn't mean you need to sit around and complain about it. Doing so is not going to make time stop, so don't! Get out there and enjoy yourself.

The Parador of Jarandilla De La Vera, Spain

by Gary Bumpas
The Parador of Jarandilla De La Vera is a place distinct in the history of Spain. Holy Roman Emperor Charles V - the most powerful man in the world during his reign - lived here in the Parador building for a few months before retiring to live out his remaining time in the Monastery at Yuste.

He chose this spot for it's tranquility and natural beauty. The area, on the southern slope of the Gredos mountains, is abundant with streams, waterfalls, and oak woods - producing a scenery of rare beauty. The soil is rich and fertile. There are gardens, apple and pear orchards everywhere. It has been called a paradise, and "The best place for repose, and for the pleasures of mind and body."

The 4-star Parador of Jarandilla de la Vera is a fortified palace built in the 15th century. It was constructed over the ruins of a fortress that had been built and inhabited by the Knights Templar. It has all that a castle should have; a draw-bridge, machicolations, embrasures, and robust corner towers. Parador Jarandilla is in an Italian Renaissance style however, with an interior sweetness and graciousness missing in the earlier true fortress style castles.

There is a fine dining room with views out to the open cloister (you can dine al fresco during the warmer months). Wooden ceilings and a baronial fireplace in the reception area give this place an altogether 'noble' feel. Interesting excursions from Parador Jarandilla into the city:

- See the 15th century Church on the main plaza.

- The area immediately surrounding the town is very good for hiking - several different marked trails lead along rushing streams to waterfalls and miniature gorges.

Interesting day trips include:

- Explore over to the Jerte valley - there are a couple of scenic (if not harrowing!) roads that cross over, or you can drive around through Placensia. If you are here in spring, the valley is blanketed in white - with thousands of cherry trees in bloom.

- Placensia is a typical Extremaduran town with a wonderful main plaza. Sit down at one of the many outdoor tables and wait and watch the giant elf (?) in the main clock tower strike the bell to mark each half hour. A "cuckoo clock" on the grandest of scales! There is a lively Tuesday market held here in the plaza - as it has been continuously since the 12th century!

Visiting the Parador of Jarandilla De La Vera is an experience long cherished by those who have gone out of their way to get to this nearly forgotten backwater of Spain.

10 Top travel tips for flying with children

by Paula Garrett
If travelling on public transport is a nightmare with children, how bad can it be when flying with young children or a baby? Yes, air travel with kids can seem daunting, but the secret really is to be prepared.

Start by checking out the facilities offered by your airport and airline, and follow the advice below which offers suggestions for travel preparation and for keeping children occupied during their time at the airport and on the flight.

1.When booking flights try to book the seats at the same time. I've found it better to book two seats of two with two window seats, allowing the children to have a window seat each. It helps to keep them occupied while waiting to take off. Most children, especially the younger ones, are fascinated by watching the other planes, the luggage being loaded and refuelling.

2.Try to avoid changing planes and book a direct flight. If a stop over is unavoidable, allow plenty of time to change planes, allowing for delays and time for the kids to run about and let off steam between flights.

3.When organising hand baggage, give each child a small bag with a selection of things to keep them occupied during the flight. A small cuddly toy, playing cards and coloured pencils are good, and sorry, but you can't beat an electronic game or portable DVD player. If your children love reading, allow them to buy a book at the airport, the excitement and novelty of a new book can keep them engrossed for ages.

4.Take snacks for the airport and water (bought after security), include chewy sweets for take off and landing.

5.Make sure you pack enough supplies for the flight. If you have a baby or young toddler, pack plenty of nappies and a change of clothes. Don't forget to change the baby's nappy before boarding. If you are trying to toilet train your child - give up on the flight and use 'pull-ups' - it's just not worth the hassle!

6.Try to arrive at the airport early allowing plenty of time to get to the airport. Aim to leave half an hour before you need to, plan for unexpected delays, and don't forget about parking. If you're stressed because you are running late, your children will get stressed too.

7.It's advisable to take your buggy / stroller to the gate - most airlines will let you take your buggy to the plane's door and will then put it in to the hold. It's a good idea to take an inexpensive, umbrella type buggy as they do get thrown about in the hold.

8.Another great tip is to book meet and greet airport parking. This is a stress free, time saving, ultra-convenient method of airport parking, especially when travelling with children. All that's involved is driving directly to the airport terminal where a driver is waiting to collect your car, get your kids and cases out of the car, hand over the keys and walk in to the terminal. The driver parks your car in their secure car park and when you return he brings your car back to the terminal for you - just walk out of the terminal building, load up your luggage, and kids, and away you go! It really is that simple.

9.Draw your child's attention to everyday life in the airport. Chat to them about what is happening throughout the journey, even the very young find things we take for granted, such as checking in hold baggage and passing through airport security, fascinating.

10.Dress your children in loose, comfortable clothing - they are more likely to get irritable and complain if they are wearing tight, restrictive clothing.

By following these tips you should minimise the strain on you and your children.Remember a holiday is for relaxing so focus on the destination not the journey and above all enjoy your holiday.

The Taj Mahal -- An Emperor's Tribute to His Beloved

by Gautam Chatterjea
Agra, 200 kilometres from Delhi, was the seat of the Mughal dynasty since the 15th century.

Shah Jahan the erstwhile emperor, in 1612 married a nubile beauty Arjuman, and lovingly called her Mumtaj Mahal literally meaning 'ornate crown of the place'. Mumtaj Mahal was two years younger to Shah Jahan and in their married life of 18 years she bore him 14 children. During her last childbirth Mumtaj Mahal passed away in 1631. On her demise the bereaved emperor was shattered and withdrew himself from active governance of his kingdom.

Mumtaj Mahal had died at Berhampur in the India state of Kalinga, now known as Orissa and was buried at the banks of river Tapti. Sometime later after the emperor could gather himself, he asked his son Suja to exhume his mother's body and lay her to rest at Agra the seat of his kingdom.

Not to be contented with an ordinary tomb on the grave of his wife, Shah Jahan decided to create a magnificent memorial in remembrance of Mumtaj Mahal that the world will ever marvel at. He invited the most renowned architects, artisans and construction experts from many countries of the world and expressed his desire for the creation of a unique mausoleum in memory of his wife at the banks of river Yamuna at Agra where the empress was finally laid to rest. Finally, after years of creating hundreds of designs for this memorial edifice, an artist from Persia named Isfan Diya Rumi produced the design that Shah Jahan was eventually satisfied with.

And the construction of a marvellous memoriam began which took 22 years to complete with a labour force of 20,000 workers and skilled artisans. It was originally named 'Rouza-e-Mumtaj Mahal' [the Mausoleum of Mamtaj Mahal], but eventually came to be short named as the Taj Mahal.

On the border panels of the four entrances to the central tomb are inscriptions from the holy Quran. The perspective design employs a gradual enlargement of calligraphy towards the top, so that any one reading it standing on the platform 100 feet below will still read the letters in optical proportions at the top. This uniquely arranged calligraphy was etched by Amanat Khan Miraji of Kandahar.

The cost of the edifice when completed in 1653 stood at Indian Rupees 30 million.

At the entrance of the edifice, the visitor will read on the plaque these details on the memorial:

"The Taj Mahal was built between 1631 and 1653 by Emperor Shah Jahan (1627 - 1658) as the tomb for his wife Arjuman better known as Mumtaj Mahal, born in 1592, the daughter of Asaf Khan, she married Shah Jahan in 1612 and died in 1631. After his death the Emperor was buried by her side."

The architectural marvel was built over a 20 metre deep foundation of wells, wooden logs, sandstone and mortar fillings that has stood through 350 years. The Taj has three gates and four Minarets each 140 feet high placed at the four ends of the main platform. The minarets also employ a unique design in that it will always fall outwards should it encounter collapse in a disaster. The main gate displays on its top 22 small domes in two rows that account for the number of years it took Taj to be built. The main platform is approached through a wonderfully laid out garden and water channels with fountains. Garden planners from Kashmir, the place famous for its beautiful gardens, created the garden complex. The mausoleum also has a prayer mosque and a guesthouse for royal visitors on either side of the main structure set at equal distance and built symmetrically.

The emperor in his old age during house detention by his son Aurangzeb, with failing vision would take the help of the reflection from the crystals embedded in the pillars of the fort's balcony facing the edifice, to look at his beloved wife's memorial - The Taj, two kilometres away.

The Taj Mahal is indeed the epitome of the greatest tribute of an emperor to his beloved. Shah Jahan's passions in building the memorial of Mumtaj Mahal was expressed in his own words as:

"The felon who seeks shelter in this mausoleum will find his misdeed annulled ... the sinner will be forgiven for his sin. Sighs will have no bounds at this tomb, that's the eventual embodiment of HIS creation."

Millions of people from round the world have seen the beautiful edifice that is regarded to be the most wonderful thing on the planet created 350 years ago. A traveller has recorded "if it is assumed that there is nothing else worth seeing in India, even then a visit to the magnificent Taj would always compensate for the effort of coming here."

And finally the memorial now basks in the pride of being recognised among the seven new wonders of the world. More on Taj Mahal at: www.indiadreamtours.com

The curious would find it interesting to know that the ancient Indian civilization and its culture has many wonders hidden in every fold of this great land that has remained the centre of attention for the world for many many centuries.

A Walking Safari In Tanzania's Ngorongoro

by Kalisti Juma
See Tanzania's incredible flora and fauna on foot, walking in the African Bush with Masai warriors as you guides. Spectacular game viewing is combined with hikes around Lake Eyasi and the Ol Moti Crater, where you experience cultural encounters amongst the Masai, Datoga tribe and nomadic Bushmen.

The walking safari in Ngorongoro Conservation area is becoming very popular. Normally it is preceded with a short safari in 4 x 4 safari Land Rovers or Land Cruisers. Many people when they get to East Africa understandably want to see as much as possible and arrive with killer agendas ahead of them. I would advise restraint with the temptation to do too much in a short time. Safari fatigue can set in all too quickly with visitors reaching the halfway point in a safari and just longing for it all to end.

I would recommend some time spent at Lake Manyara, as you are able go out onto the lake in a two-man canoe and see the game from this unusual perspective. Also bicycles and village walking 'cultural' safaris are on offer. Take every chance you can to spend some time out of your safari vehicle. Stretch your legs and see Africa from as many perspectives as you can. There is much to experience and it cannot all be done from sitting on your bottom.

Remember, the most enjoyable experiences are not achieved quickly.

This walking safari has the added bonus of using Masai warriors as your guides. Donkeys, belonging to the Masia, are used as porters. The walking safari starts on the cool, forested rim of Ngorongoro crater and ends in the dry heat on the arid shores of Lake Natron, where temperature often exceed 40 c [105 f]. This soda lake is famed for the large number of flamingo that fly here to breed. Indeed the flamingo seems to be the only animal that flourishes in this harsh environment.

The highland walking safaris cover a rage of altitudes with the range rising steeply from the surrounding plains at about 1,500 meters to heights of between 2,500 and 3,500 meters. It is advisable to wear many layers of clothing as the temperatures will vary greatly. These safaris are quite energetic and a good level of fitness is required. The Crater Highlands range is roughly oval, measuring about 80 km by 40 km.

The Highlands are volcanic in origin, with the different peaks being created over millions of years by a series of eruptions connected with the formation of the Great Rift Valley. The older volcanoes have been eroded and most have collapsed to form craters.

Empakaai crater is 600 meters in diameter and 300 meters deep. With much of the base of the crater covered by a deep, 80 meter soda lake. Here there are birds, antelope, buffalo and blue monkeys, with the thickly forested walls plunging to the crater floor. If you wish to climb into the crater and explore, you will be required to be accompanied by an armed guide. The crater is heavily grazed by buffalo and the buffalo are notoriously anti-social and very aggressive. To catch the best Rift Valley views it is a must to be there at dawn or dusk, as the cloud cover can be heavy at other times. The familiar water birds to be spotted here include the black-winged stilt, cape teal and flamingo.

Ol Moti Crater can only be reached by foot and an armed ranger must accompany you. The scenery of Ol Moti is beautiful, with islands of forest and a waterfall at the source of the Munge River. Monkeys and buffalo are seen in the area.

The active volcano Ol Donyo Lengai standing at 2,878m is a popular way to end the walking safari. This volcano erupts every seven years or so. Here an early morning start essential. The climb is steep on powdery scree; therefore climbing the steep slopes on this very loose footing is neither easy nor enjoyable. The early morning start is to avoid the heat of the sun, for there is no shade on the mountain and together with the heat and lack of water makes this early start, in the pre dawn darkness, essential. This climb would only be recommended for the physically fit and for those with an interest in volcanoes, otherwise relax at the bottom and enjoy a well-earned rest and a cool drink.

Alaskan Cruise - Relaxing Vacation

by Mitchel Mason
The Alaskan cruise is often overlooked when shopping for a cruise. Most people contemplate on a warm destination first. Some popular ones are the Mexican Riviera, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, and the Bahamas. The itinerary is also an important factor to consider/V]contemplate on. These cruises can be quite a treat for first-time cruisers.

However, for regular cruise aficionados, they might be searching for an idea of a cruise that is a little different from the usual destinations previously mentioned. If the itinerary is still the same although they are sailing with different cruise line, the element of uniqueness and excitement is not present in their cruise vacation.

If you are one of those vacationers who are looking for a different cruise experience, then a cruise trip to Alaska is what you are looking for. You can expect a different landscape and culture that you will not forget.

If you are ready to do something unique, then try the Alaskan adventure. It has everything that will suit your needs. It is indeed a perfect getaway either for a short excursion or for a long vacation.

Alaska is the biggest expansive state in the United States in terms of land area (570,374 square miles); if superimposed over the map of the country, it can cover the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, and Colorado. Although having an enormous land area, it is one of the largely unpopulated areas in the world, with animals outnumbering human settlers.

Its boundaries are marked by natural expanses like mountain ranges and streams. The largest attraction in Alaska is its ice glaciers, which makes it a perfect destination for cruising. Sailing along its expansive coastline allows you to observe these spectacular sights.

If you select a cruise that will bring you in Glacier Bay, you will witness the glaciers calving. Calving is the process by which the rivers of ice drop breaks off the edge of the cliff into the sea. Larger mass of glaciers can perform this several times an hour. It is one of the breathtaking aspects of an Alaskan cruise.

After seeing these glaciers calving, you may also have the urge to touch a glacier. Lucky for you, there are cruise lines that provide helicopter rides and hiking which permit you to step on one of these ice glaciers. This is one of the many unique options that an Alaskan cruise provides.

If you take an Alaskan cruise vacation, you may also want to check Tracy Arm Fjord, which is a stretch of water that ventures inland and away from the shoreline. It will allow you to experience the power of the granite walls, mountain peaks, and majestic waterfalls from an unusual vantage point.

Perfect months for getting an Alaskan cruise are May through September. You can expect a decrease in temperature at over a hundred degrees in the South during summer season.

There are two very popular Alaskan cruises. The first one is the Inside Passage cruise, which normally runs a length of about a week. It includes itinerary stops at Ketchikan, Skagway, and Juneau. Different sights and side trips can also be expected when you take this cruise.

The second one is the Gulf of Alaska cruise, also known as the Glacier Route Cruise. You can expect to see the Glacier Bay, which is previously mentioned in this article, and possibly the Hubbard Glacier.

Whichever cruise you prefer, cruise lines will provide you options on the ships that you want to board. There are smaller excursion ships that can carry an average of 150 passengers. You can take a closer look at a glacier rather than using the larger cruise ships (see what happened to the famous Titanic vessel).

The selections are all dependent on you. If you are really an adventurous individual, you want to book a smaller cruise vessel although it is quite expensive. If sightseeing for you is enough, then a bigger cruise ship is good for you. Don't worry, though, whichever you choose, always expect the unexpected!

Alaskan cruising might seem like a strange choice at first. However, it will surely be an exciting vacation and an unforgettable time for you. If you're looking for something a little different, embark on an Alaskan cruise.

In fact, the Caribbean is where you will find one of the "hottest," honeymoon destinations in the world. That destination is that of Jamaica. After a close examination, you may very well find yourself booking your Jamaican honeymoon reservations right away.

As nice as it is to hear that Jamaica is a popular destination for romantic getaways, particularly honeymoons, you may be looking for proof. Bangkok's Khao San road - hippy haven or essential budget travel hangout?

by Andy Burrows
Property owners on and around the street were wise to the fact that a potentially lucrative situation was staring them in the face and subsequently sought to capitalise on it by opening up their homes to those seeking accommodation cheaper than was available at the established hotels in the Grand Palace area.

Word quickly got around and Bangkok's Khao San road's reputation as a cheap guesthouse provider brought progressively more business to the area, ensuring the growth and development that has led to the booming mecca that it is today.

Khao San road Bangkok in the 21st century is more popular than it has ever been, still drawing its unusual mix of 'trustafarians', aging radicals, societal drop-outs and of course, budget travellers. Should you not fit neatly into any of the aforementioned categories, then be warned that Khao San road is a love it or hate it type place and your own lack of bohemian tendencies or desires to do it on the cheap may well predispose you to detest this hippy haven.

There is no doubt that this bohemian paradise is teeming with clichés and stereotypes, but this does little to dissuade more from coming here. Introduction to Khao San road Take the street in the spirit in which it's intended and it is indeed a destination offering plenty to the average backpacking holidaymaker.

The atmosphere is electric, especially of an evening when the street is filled with those in search of affordable cuisine, cold beer and cheap consumer goods. Few who desire these and other budget holiday necessities can fail to be drawn into the carnival atmosphere that presides, irrespective of its obvious detraction from traditional Thai culture. The fact that Khao San road Bangkok is so westernised and subject to such a diluted level of eastern ambience does not matter to the majority of its visitors.

Here is a place where like-minded individuals can meet for the first time and exchange ideas or form future plans together, or where those who have met previously elsewhere in Thailand or Southeast Asia can rendezvous to catch up on their respective antics. Here is a place where Thai food is geared to suit foreign tastes, where western food is ubiquitously available and where few business owners are not capable of speaking competent English.

Here is a place too where travel agents provide everything necessary for individuals to organise and execute ongoing travel plans, covering everything from getting around Thailand, to visiting other Southeast Asian countries and getting back home. Bangkok sightseeing tours Serving such essential roles as these, as well as providing some of the city's cheapest accommodation options, it's difficult not to be enamored by Bangkok's Khao San road, warts and all.

How to Get the Best Possible Beach Vacation Home

by: Terry Roberts
There is nothing more relaxing than having a week or two to spend at the beach. Vacation homes are a wonderful change from staying at a large or impersonal motel or hotel, plus they have the added convenience of being close to or even right on the water, having all the amenities of a house, as well as being much larger than a hotel room or even a suite would be.

Many of the beach vacation homes available offer all the features of a hotel vacation. If you are considering a rental and are going through an agency or property management company, it is usually possible to have a rental car provided for you upon arrival. In addition, many companies and agencies can also offer bonded and professional cleaning staff, chefs and even tour guides that will personalize your beach vacation and really make it a holiday for everyone in the family.

If you would prefer to just be able to relax and enjoy the warm weather, beach vacation homes can offer a quiet, stress-free holiday environment. To ensure that you get the best possible rental property, be sure to check the following:

* Ensure that you know the full amount of the rental and any additional expenses that may be included. Most beach vacation homes, especially those that are right on the beach or at the water will book up at least one season in advance. Holiday times such as summer vacation, spring break and even Christmas holidays may be booked several seasons in advance.

* Before sending a deposit or providing a credit card number for a deposit or reservation, fully understand the cancellation policy or any insurance that you may need to have on the property.

* Whether you are renting beach vacation homes from an individual or a company, be sure to get everything in writing before supplying a deposit or credit card information, especially if you have not rented through the company or from the individual before. A verbal agreement is not binding or legally valid in a court but a written, signed contract is a legal document.

* Finally, check the area in which the beach vacation home is located. While property right on the beach is great in quiet or secluded places, on busy beaches it can be a bit more stressful and noisy, especially if you are wanting a quiet vacation spot.

Doing some advanced research on beach vacation homes is simple through the internet or making a few phone calls. Planning your vacation is half the fun and knowing what you want and finding just the right beach vacation homes makes the holiday perfect for the whole family.

Luxury Alaskan Cruises are Growing in Popularity

by Virginia Morgan
In the last ten years, luxury Alaskan cruises have become one of the most popular types of vacations for many different kinds of travelers. From retirees to young families, Alaska cruises are becoming one of the most requested types of travel for many travel agencies. And when you look at all the reasons to choose such a vacation, it is not very hard to see why this destination has become number one.

The Sights

Alaska is one of the few untouched wildernesses left in America. The top three reasons that people wish to go on a luxury Alaska cruise are for wildlife, glaciers and mountains. With less than one twentieth of the land inhabited, this state has the most protected land than any other, with over 65% federally held for the preserving of Alaskan wilderness. It is common to see grisly bears, bald eagles, moose, and elk from the comforts of your cruise ship. The ship also takes you closer than other tours to glaciers, and provides you a waterside view that can be replicated no where else. And your cruise line will sail right past the most amazing and picturesque mountains. An Alaskan cruise helps you catch a glimpse of the greatest sights Alaska has to offer.

The Price

Alaska has paved the way for cheap luxury cruises . Alaska sailings are relatively inexpensive. They offer travelers a way to visit a luxury destination at a budget price. With seven day Alaska cruises starting as little as $400 per person, this price includes the chance to sail into different ports and explore Alaska on your own time. Not to mention that this price includes all your food and on board entertainment. With such a good deal, it is no wonder that travelers are choosing to see Alaska on a luxury cruise.

The "Add Ons"

In addition to offering fabulous costal sights, most luxury Alaskan cruises are offering amazing "add ons" to their already great itineraries. For example, the majority of Alaska travelers wish to see the great Denali National Park. Cruise lines, such as Princess Cruises, now offers to combine your Alaska cruise with an exclusive land extension that will take you to the Alaskan interior to see the sights of Denali. When you add on to your cruise, the price is relatively small, and a number of Cruise lines offer exclusive lodges for their cruise guests who want to extend their stay. For travelers who have the need to see a more detailed version of Alaska, combining a cruise and tour with the cruise lines is a great way to get the most value out of your money.

No matter how you slice it, Alaska is best seen through the eyes of a cruiser. On a luxury Alaska cruise, you will most definitely get your fill of wildlife, mountains and glaciers. And with pricing often starting for as little as $400 per person, covering drinks, transfers and on board activities, it is an incredible deal for all travelers. And should you desire to see even more of this last American frontier, you can add on extra tours and interior extensions that will let you take full advantage of great cruise line pricing. So whether you plan to make Alaska your only stop, or if you wish to include it as part of your luxury world cruise, make sure you truly experience the sights of Alaska.
